Apple has recently released iOS 16.3 which includes a number of new features to the iOS 16. The update includes Apple Music Sing which allows users to adjust the volume of vocals to sing along to their favorite songs, and Apple Advanced Protection, a privacy feature that adds end-to-end encryption to various iCloud components such as text message backups, photos, notes and more. Additionally, iOS 16.3 also includes the whiteboard app Freeform, two new lock screen widgets including one for medications, improvements to the always-on display, new AirDrop settings and the ability to view sports scores for Live Activities on Apple TV.
Check for compatibility with your device
Before installing the iOS 16.3 update, it’s important to check if your iPhone is compatible with the new software. The update is only available for certain iPhone models, including the iPhone 8 and later models such as the iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone SE (second generation and newer) and the new iPhone 14. If you have an older iPhone model, such as the iPhone 7 or earlier, it will not be able to run iOS 16.3.
Backup your phone
Before updating to iOS 16.3, it’s important to back up your iPhone. This is necessary in case you decide to downgrade to an earlier version of iOS 16 later on, and it will ensure that you don’t lose any important data during the update process.
By default, your iPhone will automatically back itself up every time it’s connected to power and Wi-Fi during your regular sleep hours. However, if this feature is disabled, you can manually back up your device by going to Settings > Your Name > iCloud > iCloud Backup and then selecting Back Up Now. It’s a good idea to check that your backup is successful before proceeding with the update.
Another way to backup your iPhone before updating to iOS 16.3 is by using Finder on a Mac. To do this, connect your iPhone to your computer, open Finder, select your device, and then create a backup. In addition to this, Apple recommends archiving your backup, so that it will not be overwritten by any other backups in the future. This will ensure that you have a separate copy of your backup that can be accessed if needed.
To ensure that the download and installation process of iOS 16.3 goes smoothly, it’s important to do the following:
1. Make sure that your iPhone is connected to power. The device will not allow you to download iOS 16.3 if the battery is less than 50%, so it’s best to plug in your phone while updating.
2. Keep the device’s battery above 20%. Even if your device is plugged in, it’s best to have enough battery left so that the update process can go smoothly.
3. Ensure that you have a stable internet connection. A stable internet connection is needed to download the update, if your internet connection is weak or unstable it may cause the process to fail.
4. Clear up enough storage space on your device. Before downloading and installing iOS 16.3, it’s important to make sure you have enough storage space on your device. If you’re running low on storage, you’ll need to delete some large files or apps. To do this, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and remove any unnecessary files or apps. This will ensure that you have enough storage space for the update to be downloaded and installed without any issues.
Once you have completed all the necessary steps, downloading and installing iOS 16.3 on your iPhone is a simple process:
Open your iPhone and go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Wait a few seconds or minutes for the update to appear and then tap Download and Install for iOS 16.3.
A loading bar will appear, along with an estimate of how long the download process will take.
Once the download is complete, reboot your device and wait for iOS 16.3 to install.
Once your iPhone boots up, follow any prompts and you should now see iOS 16.3 installed on your device.
It’s always good to have the latest version of the OS installed, but remember that with new software come new bugs, so be prepared for a little troubleshooting.
